Hong Kong Regulators Warn LinkedIn Users About AI Data Training
Hong Kong's Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data has issued a stark reminder to LinkedIn users regarding the platform's updated privacy policy. Starting November 3, LinkedIn will begin using personal data—including profiles, posts, and resumes—to train its generative AI models. The MOVE has drawn scrutiny from regulators, particularly concerning the default opt-in setting for Hong Kong users.
The Office of the Privacy Commissioner intervened in late 2024, temporarily halting LinkedIn's data usage plans. After months of negotiations, LinkedIn has assured that Hong Kong users will retain control over their data, though concerns persist about the broader implications for privacy in the digital age.
